The Confessions of Dr Dream and Other Stories
Kevin Ayers
1974 · prog rock
On The Confessions of Dr Dream and Other Stories, his 5th record, Kevin Ayers finds balance between the avant-garde experimentation of Shooting at the Moon and the pop sensibilities of Bananamour, while the later it’s considered for many his best album, it seems that up until this point in his career everything they guy works on turns gold.
The most pleasant surprise here is an appearance by the great Nico, a short and enigmatic cameo that ends up shaping the sound of the whole album. This is, perhaps, the collaboration that paves the way for the great concert of June 1, 1974 with friends John Cale and Brian Eno.
The eternally underrated Ollie Halsall also features on guitar, starting here the trip (and downfall) that would birth the Ayers scene The Fall sang about and eventually give us this gem from Spanish TV in the 80’s.
