I think the last time I voiced excitement about an album release was when Panda Bear and Sonic Boom (who produced MGMT before) announced “Reset”, but I eagerly waited for their follow-up to the marvelous “Little Dark Age” from 2018. I consider that album a treasured companion from my days of aimlessly walking the streets of Medellín.
After a few listens to “Loss of Life” I feel tricked by my own hype. I find it underwhelming, at times even depressing. The album is doing justice to its title so it doesn’t completely disappoint. But one thing I can say loudly about it is I didn’t like its preachy vibe.
Perhaps my real problem is that my expectations were set on the heights (and highs) of LDA or “Congratulations” and this deserves future listens?
