Despite my intentions to blog as I tweet, I haven’t. Probably as I have yet to automate syndication. I’m torn between doing it with brid.gy or just writing the quick integration myself…Brid.gy would probably require me to add update support to my micropub endpoint.

I can relate. I’ve wanted to do the same on my website (Tanzawa inspired) for long, I got Brid.gy “crossposting” to Twitter and I can manually update syndication links on my Micropub endpoint, but still no way to add that link to my Jekyll site. Manual until it hurts.

Couple months ago, worse thing for me is that I was stuck in the “Figma (design) phase” thankfully I recently changed my approach and shipped an MVP version and I’m still tweaking it but I’m more happy now.

Your website looks great! And I love how you kept the various designs you have had over the years. I see that you’re using umami analytics, would you recommend it?

I’m still relying on several third-parties to handle the #IndieWeb stuff, such as IndieAuth.com, Webmention.io, Aperture, Webmention.app and using IFTTT to process webhooks, which makes the next step to self-host these services, but long live #Bridgy and #granary!

Keeping accessible format playlists has some appeal, although potentially a lot of manual work unless I found some way to transform the csv files I downloaded from Exportify into a blog post.

This is actually how I post my playlists. Exported csv files and a Jekyll template. There must be a Wordpress plugin for this, there’s one for everything 😅

I was using yarr and Indigenous on iOS and replaced both with Together. I would prefer a non-React based alternative, but it just works.

I have configured my website to start syndicating notes to fed.brid.gy. You can now follow me on the fediverse at @jamesg.blog@jamesg.blog.

Does it actually work for you? I was able to set it up and send a couple of toots but then it just stopped working. Sending webmentions to brid.gy/publish/mastodon and syndicating to an actual Mastodon account seems to work.

Since Obsidian is really just reading from a local file system, you could use any number of application to sync that directory between devices. I think something like Dropbox would work but I'm thinking about going with Syncthing.

I had not thought about it. I’m giving Trilium a few weeks to see if it sticks, but your suggestion is definitely worth trying. Thank you.

I've been struggling with the same. I like Notion but I don't think the mobile experience works as well as it does on desktop. Trilium is the easiest to setup but I the UX makes it harder to work with than Notion for me. Overall Obsidian is closer to what I need but I don't want to fully move to it until I setup my own sync server that doesn't rely on their servers.

I like that Obsidian Sync enables E2E encryption, but $10 a month for that feature is out of my budget. I didn’t know you could actually self-host it? How are you planning to do that?

I installed Tanzawa. It's amazing. Seriously amazing.

I feel right at home using its UI. I'm loving testing it locally, but there's two things I haven't figure out:

1. What's the best way to import content from markdown files? My goal is to import my Jekyll website and I think at the moment there's 2 ways to do it.

Manually creating new posts on the Tanzawa Dashboard by copying and pasting the content and then manually changing the dates through the Django Settings.
Exporting the Jekyll post files to Wordpress, exporting the Wordpress site and then importing it into Tanzawa.

Is there an alternative to these options?

2. Custom link support.

I couldn't find a way to create an /about or /now page. I tried having entries with custom set permalinks, but was unable to find such option. I think this might be my fault by missing something in the documentation and I'd appreciate some help.

I didn't realize it was such a huge task to do the whole switch, I was wrong thinking all the Liquid templates would just work out of the box. It's gonna take a couple of weekends to finish the move I guess.

I faced the same dilemma recently, but here's the thing, even though I built websites for a living in the past, the truth is I am not a pro web dev and this is all quite technical.

I decided to implement (WIP) webmentions, micropub and everything IndieWeb because I've found value in learning about it.

There's still some things I need to figure out, but I'm gonna stick with receiving webmentions notifications on RSS and displaying my likes/replies to posts around the web as social notes.

I'd say if it's already setup and it doesn't affect your workflow, stick with it, invest that time and energy on writing new posts. I'm sure like me there's lots of people that enjoy them.
