↳ Reply to: A proposal for generative AI standards from Neil Clarke

...Another thing I’m scared of happening is that EULAs will essentially require consent for the material you create with a product to be used as training data. I’m particularly concerned about Microsoft as creator of the largest office software suite and heavy investor in very expensive to operate generative AI — to justify a ten billion dollar spend, they’re going to want everyone using it all the time.

It’s been a while since I used the Microsoft Office suite for anything personal, but I assumed whatever I type into Word would remain private and never leave my computer unless I chose to share it. This post made me think that maybe that hasn’t been the case.

If documents end up being sent automatically as training material for an AI, isn’t that like the end of privacy too?

I can’t help but also fear this AI-powered future Big Tech seems to be driving us into, but I’m coming to terms with it. Perhaps it’s time I start wearing a “Laid off by AI” pin or something 🤷🏽‍♂️
